Mara Hoffman S/S 2014

New York Fashion Week has started and yes, I’m not there.  I am asked all the time why I don’t attend every fashion week and perhaps that is something I’ll talk about in another post.  Until then let’s focus on Mara Hoffman’s new collection!  What I love about this designer is her trademark bold and geometric prints.  I used to be afraid of color and prints. It was probably from looking back at photos of myself in the 80s (hello matching scrunch socks and hideous blinged out denim jackets) that kept me in my mostly monochromatic black looks.

Spring and summer wouldn’t be the same without her designs.  Anytime we go to the beach I’m always on the lookout for a new MH piece to accompany my adventure.  I knew her ‘Pow Wow’ one piece would be perfect for our trip to Miami, and the tasseled sweater below made my first trip to Peru unforgettable…

I adore these pieces regardless of the occasion behind wearing them, but also like to think they enhanced those experiences.  For me that’s what fashion is all about — the dream of it all.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 & how to wear the trends now

Watching the Marc Jacobs show basically turned into an Ally screamfest.  At one point my husband mumbled, “Do I need to leave you two alone?” at which point I said YES and continued to yell.

This show had everything I love!  It had 60s fabulousness, Edie Sedgwick inspired hair and makeup, and stripes… plenty of black and white stripes.  This is one collection where I really wanted every piece, even the half tops!  (Note to self – start to incorporate more ab work into workouts.)

Here are my favorite looks from the show…

Can’t wait for the collection?  Shop the look now!

Porter Grey – fall 2012 collection

My last day of fashion week started with the Porter Grey presentation.  I loved this collection of shiny metallic fabrics, leather shorts, capes, and over-sized blazers.

I LOVE this dress with the cut-out sides…

A nice cohesive collection of easy wearable pieces.  No need for runway theatrics, these clothes speak for themselves.

The current Porter Grey piece I’m dying for this top for summer…

Porter Grey - Double Breasted tank

I’m thinking this top with white wide-leg flared jeans or dark skinny jeans and a white oversized blazer.  Yep, this gets added to my ever growing shopping list!

Candela – fall 2012 collection

Upon entering the Candela presentation my hand was filled with a tin cup of prosecco and my ears with the strums of banjo music.

It was clearly not going to be your normal fashion show…

Designer, Gabriela Perezutti

The style of the show was beautiful – it felt like I walked into a fashionable barn!

While the presentation was refreshingly different, I must admit the collection was not my thing.   It did not seem very cohesive but there were a few pieces that I enjoyed.

I rarely wear flats but in the summer I love a great sandal.  These Candela gladiator sandals are on my must have list!

What did you dolls think of this collection?

BCBG – fall 2012 collection

Show number two: BCBG.

I’ve been shopping at BCBG since I was in middle school, which made this show even more special for me.

The aesthetic channeled a very 70s chic vibe, with color blocking and contrasting panels.  My favorite design had to be the pleated skirt with sheer and opaque fabric.

Most of the looks were dresses — Max Azria’s specialty.  BCBG has always been a go-to brand when it comes to finding a great dress.  I particularly loved the white dress that closed the show.

I did, however, find it a bit strange that the collection did not feature a single sweater. They made up for that lack of warmth with the use of trenches and fur.  Overall I found it to be a very wearable collection.

My current BCBG obsession… BCBGMAXARIA ‘Marcel’ heels.  Wouldn’t these be just dreamy with white jeans this summer?
